Good Practice Guide For The Trading Of Grass And Wholecrop Forage

Text Box: Supplementary feed trading is suffering inaccuracies due to a lack of research. These inaccuracies are leading to legal issues and feeding out problems. In particular the issue of determining dry matter from sampling is in the spotlight. Currently there are no accepted guidelines to how these forages are sampled, stored and processed from the point of harvesting through to the final weighed product.
In addition the determination of forage weight is questionable with issues around how to measure the weight of bales and a cubic meter of silage.

This project is designed to be an extension of the “Good practice guide for the trading of maize forage”. It will take the protocols set for the maize industry, test, validate and if necessary modify protocols based on their findings. Methodologies and templates designed for the ‘Maize code of practice’ will be used within this series of trials. The outcome of the testing and refining will be a “Good Practice guide for the trading of grass and wholecrop based forages”
